You are not alone
Every workplace in Britain is affected by mental distress and ill health in the workforce. One person in six will be experiencing symptoms of stress, or anxiety or depression at any one time. It is a normal feature of the workplace and could be affecting you or one of your workmates.
Most people with mental health problems are as likely to be in employment and working as anyone else, often their struggles are undiagnosed and untreated.
The UK Health & Safety at Work Act (HSWA) is the legislation that covers health at work. HSWA recognises that work-related issues can cause anxiety and depression and the impact of work-related stress and how it can cause or aggravate health issues. Employers have a legal duty to assess the risks to its employees from work-related stress.
